Tips for the Day

Tips for the Day

Keep Christ the focus of your homeschool

  • Begin the day with the Lord in His word and in prayer
  • “This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

Deal with disciplinary issues as they arise

  • Academics are important but focusing on godly character focuses on eternity

Consider your family’s habits

  • You know your children and how your family functions
  • Just because your best friend starts at 8:00 in the morning, does not mean you have to begin at that time also

Start with a good breakfast! – simple is fine!

Include morning, lunch, and dinner chores into your daily schedule

Integrate life skills – cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. – with your school day

Turn off your cell phone or use an answering machine

  • Let family and friends know when you are/are not available

Have a beginning time and ending time for the day

Work with your toddler or younger children first

  • Younger children are usually most attentive in the morning

Involve older children in the teaching of the younger children or in playing with a toddler or infant

Consider teaching the more difficult subjects early in day

Consider multi-level teaching for subjects such as Bible, science, social studies/history

Establish a routine and yet be flexible

  • If you prefer a schedule, let it guide you, not master you

Include daily quiet time after lunch, even for older children

If you’re new to homeschooling, start slow

  • perhaps get into the routine with 3 subjects and add another 1 every week

It’s ok to take an unplanned break – that’s one of the reasons for those ‘down’ days

Smile! “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say rejoice.” Philippians 4:4

Keep Christ the focus of your homeschool.

End each day with praise and thanksgiving!

“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” Psalm 107:1
